ECONOMY

Tourism is second only to the government in importance to the Victoria economy and constant efforts are being made to extend the tourist season beyond the summer months. Much benefit is expected to be derived from the 1994 Commonwealth Games, for which Victoria is the host city. The logging, fishing and agricultural activities of the rest of Vancouver Island also contribute to the city's economic base, and high-technology industries, with low environmental impact, are being actively sought.
